SHANNON FRANKLIN, OD
Dr. Franklin has been practicing optometry for more than 20 years. Her current patients range in age from infants to senior adults. She has special training in binocular vision and pediatric visual development. She utilizes instruments and techniques designed especially for children to obtain the most accurate visual analysis. In addition, Dr. Franklin is experienced in the treatment and management of eye diseases. She writes medical prescriptions for conditions as simple as red eyes and as complex as glaucoma. She also works with family practitioners who treat patients with diabetes and high blood pressure to detect and treat ocular side effects from these conditions.
Dr. Franklin earned her Bachelor degree at the University of Virginia and her doctorate from Southern College of Optometry (SCO). While attending SCO, she conducted research in the areas of dry eye syndrome and contact lens solutions. Dr. Franklin was awarded the 2013 Virginia Optometrist of the Year by the Virginia Optometric Association. Currently, she serves as InfantSEE coordinator for Virginia and is a Fellow in the Virginia Academy of Optometry. She is also a member and Past President of the Virginia Optometric Association.
Outside of caring for people’s eyes, Dr. Franklin’s passion is her two adult children and her husband, Alan. She attends Crozet Baptist Church and is very active with community events.
